Spanish School

IES Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo Secondary School is in El Ejido. Agriculture is the main economic source of El Ejido.  Pedro Duque, a Spanish astronaut, said in 2014 that greenhouses area in Almería was the most amazing thing he had seen in his space travels.

Santo Domingo Secondary School is the oldest high school in the city. It is a state school which was inaugurated in 1966. In fact, we celebrated the 50th anniversary last year. It is attended by around 927 students of many different nationalities. It is an example of integration since students from very different cultures coexist in it.

It offers a wide educational range:
  • Compulsory Secondary Education at the age of 12-16 years old.
  • Post Compulsory Secondary Education of Science and Technology.
  • Post Compulsory Secondary Education of Social Sciences.
  • Post Compulsory Secondary Education of Humanities.
  • Post Compulsory Secondary Education of Arts.
  • Medium Level Training Cycle in Auxiliary Nursing Care.
  • Medium Level Training Cycle in Health Emergencies.
Students are trained to get their first job or to continue their studies at the University.
If you have the opportunity of visiting this part of Spain you can enjoy the gastronomy, in fact, Almería has been chosen as the Spanish capital of gastronomy 2019. And what is more, you can visit MiniHollywood in Tabernas, where the best western movies have been recorded.

Escape Room

This escape room called "Scientific mistake has as its main plot the spread of a mortal virus in a lab, as this video shows us.
Students are trapped in the lab, so they must get out of there as soon as possible so as not to be infected by the virus. To do so, they must solve a series of maths puzzles that would lead them to find the lab key that was previously hidden.

Students from Erasmus project, who will be accompanied by mates from 2nd Bach. Stadistics optional subject, are so brave that they will dare to find the way to escape from that room.

The lab is loaded with Physics and Chemistry materials and our students must find the hints that doctor hid among them.

However, they are not only smart but also clever, and overall, they all know how to work as a group, so we are sure they will manage to solve all these hints in order to find the key that opens the lab's door.

Here are the students, trying to solve the first puzzle

Though we also have some picts in which they are definitely solving other puzzles.

An unforgettable experience that strengthens the need for sharing information, group work and keeping enthusiasm  high.

What is Erasmus +?

What is Erasmus +? Introduction The Erasmus+ programme aims to boost skills and employability, as well as modernising Education, Training, and Youth work. The seven year programme will have a budget of €14.7 billion; a 40% increase compared to current spending levels, reflecting the EU’s commitment to investing in these areas. Erasmus+ will provide opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad. Erasmus+ will support transnational partnerships among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organisations to foster cooperation and bridge the worlds of Education and work in order to tackle the skills gaps we are facing in Europe. Due to their singularity, these students are the most apt to abandon school or not to continue to the next educational level. With this project, which is called “Equal educational opportunities for students with learning difficulties ” we’ll try to find the suitable tools to give to these students the chance to have equal opportunities in education to the other students. This will be attempted at two different levels, firstly through the improvement of the teaching methods for these students and secondly through the search for the best possible applied educational policy at the area of the curriculum and their incorporation in the typical school. During this project: There will be courses for math, physics, arts and computers taught by professors specialized in education of students with learning difficulties. These courses were selected because the language (English) will not be an obstacle for the students who don’t have a perfect knowledge of it. The different organization of the teaching process by the five teachers will be evaluated by the students and the most appealing and understandable one or their combination will be chosen to be used. The teachers of each subject by exchanging their experience will propose a curriculum applied to the students’ needs. The proposed curriculum will be discussed with the educational counselors for students with learning difficulties, in order to be used, if it’s possible, in a national level. The coordinators from each country by exchanging their experience in the teaching of these students using different educational systems, will try to propose the best possible way for these students to be able to be included in the typical education. The organizations that deal with students with learning difficulties will become aware of the outputs of the project at a local, national, but even at a European level through various events, press, etwinning, the blog and the website. Selection of the students that will participate in the Erasmus mobilities

Next Tuesday, october 9, 2018, the evaluation committee of the spanish shool from our Erasmus project will punctuate the aplications submitted by students interested in participating in the mobilities with Oporto (Portugal) and Poznan (Poland). It will be an open and transparent proccess, with open doors. If you have an appointment at 4:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the IES  Santo Domingo. Good luck to all those interested.

Our project

Our project is intrinsically linked to the objectives expected from the Erasmus + projects which contribute to the improvement of the situation in which Europe finds itself. Specifically in the Europe 2020 Strategy, the project is committed to reduce the school dropout rate by 10%. One of the key factors that influences these schools dropout rate is the non-inclusion of students. Students who do not feel integrated into society feel isolated in school too, so they reach other places where they can feel better and form part of a group.
